employ only one person, a part time secretary, who works from
home. Our only other expenses during the year, apart from incidental
running costs, are the hire of the rooms for the three days
of our annual Packing Week and the hire of a room for our AGM,
to which all our Presidents and Vice Presidents are invited.
Expenses are supported by an annual subscription from each President
paid by Standing Order, under Gift Aid if applicable, to the
following is a brief description of three of our major groups.
Group was formed in 2002 after the death of Her Majesty Queen
Elizabeth The Queen Mother and Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret,
Countess of Snowdon. It is currently run by Mrs Daphne Clarke
and is supported by the many friends and associates who contributed
to both the individual Royal Groups before they were amalgamated.
Russell started the Scottish Group of Queen Mary’s Clothing
Guild in 1986. The Group grew from 20 knitters in the first
year to over 700. In 2007 Mrs. Russell sadly decided to stand
down as President of her group, during these ten years over
100,000 garments had been distributed to a variety of Scottish
when a legacy from one of Mrs Russell’s knitters was left
to The Guild it was decided that income from this wonderful
gift would be used to specifically buy garments for Scottish
Charities nominated by the Scottish Presidents, currently there
are 6 Presidents operating in Scotland.
Schools have been
involved with The Guild for many years. They used to be run
from within Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mothers Group.
When The Royal Group was formed in 2002 Mrs Rachel Parry took
over the responsibility for the schools and so The Schools Group
Each year some of
the schools, such as Manor House and Heathfield St. Mary’s
bring pupils to St. James’s Palace to help during Packing
Week before all the garments are distributed to our client charities.
Schools contribute in a variety of ways, some by fundraising
and others by the children collecting or making garments themselves
for us. We provide a Schools Pack, see How to Help Page, which
includes useful information if your School would be interested
in joining our Charity. Mrs. Parry is also happy to visit any
school to talk about the Guild.
